Odianosen Ewah, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, was the 2026 recipient of the Leadership Legacy Award from the University of Kentucky Martin Luther King Center.

The award, presented during the 4th Annual Legacy Dinner and Awards on January 20, is given to both an undergraduate and graduate student who embodies the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of thoughtful leadership and trailblazing vision. Award winners demonstrate evidence of intentional community leadership, both in and outside of the university, the ability to advocate for innovation, creativity and vision in leadership, and the ability to positively impact individuals to act and advocate for social change.

In addition, Isabel Escobar, Ewah's mentor and professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, was nominated for the Catalyst Award, given to a faculty or staff member who embraces King's legacy through leadership, service and meaningful community impact.
